Background Slideshow

‘English has a pre-eminent place in education and in society. A high-quality education in English will teach pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others, and through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them.  The overarching aim for English…is to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written language.’

The National Curriculum (2014)

At Christ Church Primary School, we immerse children in a range of exciting and engaging writing lessons based around a variety of stimuli, including a selection of high-quality fiction and non-fiction texts throughout the school. Our diverse writing curriculum promotes enjoyment in writing for all children and allows them to acquire a wide vocabulary with the opportunity to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.  It is our aim that children develop a love of writing which enables their imagination to flourish and allows them to communicate their ideas and emotions to others.

Children are taught to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.  Throughout writing units, children learn how to compose pieces effectively, including being taught how to plan, draft, revise and evaluate their writing independently.  The skills of grammar, spelling and handwriting are woven into writing lessons, providing the important skills of transcription throughout school.
