At Christ Church Primary School, we immerse children in a range of exciting and engaging writing lessons based around a selection of high quality fiction and non-fiction texts throughout the school. These units of work promote enjoyment in writing for all children, and allow them to acquire a wide vocabulary with the opportunity to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. It is our aim that children develop a love of writing which enables their imagination to flourish and allows them to communicate their ideas and emotions to others.
Children are taught to write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences. Throughout writing units, children learn how to compose pieces effectively, including being taught how to plan, revise and evaluate their writing independently. The skills of grammar, spelling and handwriting are weaved into writing lessons, providing the important skills of transcription throughout school.
