Background Slideshow

On entry to Reception and until the completion of our Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics program, children will be reading a levelled storybook in their class.  Every week, they will bring home a black and white version of the storybook they are reading within school to practice at home.  In addition to this, they will have a ‘Book Bag Book’ to read at home, consistent with their developing phonics knowledge, and a library book chosen by themselves.

You will find a Book Bag Book information video below and further information on RWI on our Phonics and Early Reading page here:

Supporting your child with phonics

Your child's reading journey begins with phonics.  Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language.  Knowing more about phonics will help you support your child's reading at home, information can be found in the following video:

Your child will be reading one of the RWI coloured books below, by clicking on the link you can support your child in practicing their 'speedy green words' which will appear throughout their books.
