Today’s children are growing up in an increasingly complex world, living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. At Christ Church, we equip children with the knowledge needed to make the best use of the internet and technology in a safe, considered and respectful way, so they are able to reap the benefits of the online world.
‘Children have the right to enjoy childhood online, to access safe online spaces, and to benefit from all the opportunities that a connected world can bring to them, appropriate to their age and stage. As they grow older, it is crucial that they learn to balance the benefits offered by technology with a critical awareness of their own and other’s online behaviour and develop effective strategies for staying safe and making a positive contribution online.’
Education for a Connected World 2020
We teach online safety throughout school within our computing and RHE curriculums. Covering the following content:
- Self image and identity
- Online relationships
- Online reputation
- Online bullying
- Managing online information
- Health well-being and lifestyle
- Privacy and security
- Copyright and ownership
Our curriculum is soon to be supported by Education for A Connected World and Project Evolve devised by the UK Council for Internet Safety, which is a framework to equip children and young people for digital life. It will provide us with high-quality, age-appropriate resources and guidance to support children's personal development.
We use 360 Safe, an online safety self-review tool, to frequently review all aspects of online safety within our school.
