At Christ Church Primary School, we seek to ensure that every child enjoys the life-changing benefits that come through play and sport. We aim for all pupils to be physically literate, gaining knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. This extends to the very starts and ends of the school day as children are encouraged to walk and cycle to school. Through our commitment to sports we work with all children to harness the power of sport, physical activities and P.E. to build life skills and improve physical and mental well-being.
Through our curriculum we aim to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Our curriculum develops knowledge, skills and understanding so all pupils can become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. PE lessons enable children to think, select and apply skills and in doing so, promote positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle.
All pupils take part in regular P.E. lessons both inside and outside. In Year 4, pupils travel to the local leisure centre for swimming lessons. Extra curricular activities including before and after school and outdoor adventure residentials introduce children to new activities and build in plenty of time to hone skills.
The extensive range of opportunities we provide to compete in sport and other activities aim to develop character, build on their personal best and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Leadership, coaching and officiating skills are actively taught and promoted through sporting and physical activity. By developing these qualities, we aim for pupils to develop personal attributes such a teamwork and resilience, leadership and communication skills, helping them thrive in other areas of life.
We offer, to all children, high-quality sports provision, including both competitive and non-competitive sports, in addition to the school curriculum. We have a full-time dedicated sports coach who works alongside teachers in P.E. lessons, as well as leading a wide range of high quality and inclusive competitive and non-competitive sports before school, after school and during lunchtime, open to all pupils.
Our lunchtime sports activities are highly popular as children practise skills previously acquired and learn new skills in competitive and non-competitive games. Every child, every day, has the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports and play opportunities led by our own staff team.
In recognition of our extensive sports provision we have been awarded the Platinum Schools Games mark!
