Our Vision for an Inclusive Curriculum
At Christ Church C of E Primary School, we believe that each member of our school community is loved as a unique child of God. We want each child to recognise their value and worth, aspiring to flourish in all aspects of their life. Our school vision ‘Aspiring together through love’ is central to all learning and means that we are a learning community, learning with each other, seeking to continually improve our knowledge, understanding and skills in order for all pupils to flourish and fulfil their potential.
At Christ Church C of E Primary School, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
We celebrate diversity and believe that every child, regardless of their background, abilities, or needs, has the right to access high-quality education. We are dedicated to:
- Providing an inclusive curriculum that supports all learning styles and abilities.
- Ensuring accessibility for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Promoting equality by fostering respect, kindness, and understanding among all pupils.
- Working in partnership with families, external agencies, and the wider community to support every child's well-being and development.
At Christ Church C of E Primary School, we strive to remove barriers to learning, ensuring that every child feels safe, confident, and included in all aspects of school life.
Adapting the Curriculum
At Christ Church C of E Primary School, we believe that every child deserves a high-quality education tailored to their unique needs. For our pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), we adapt our curriculum to ensure they can fully access learning and reach their potential. Our approach includes:
- Adaptive Teaching: We modify lessons and activities to match each child's learning style and abilities. This means adjusting the pace, content, and level of difficulty to ensure all students are challenged and supported.
- Flexible Teaching Methods: We use a range of teaching strategies, including visual aids, hands-on activities, and group work, to engage every learner. This variety helps meet the diverse needs of our SEND pupils.
- Individualised Support: Each SEND pupil has a Pupil Support Plan (PSP) or an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) that outlines their specific needs. We work closely with these plans to adjust our teaching methods, provide additional resources, and offer one-on-one support when necessary.
- Ongoing Assessment and Feedback: We continuously monitor each child’s progress, adapting our strategies based on their achievements and areas that need improvement. Regular feedback helps ensure that our methods remain effective and that pupils feel supported throughout their learning journey.
- Collaborative Approach: We work together with parents, caregivers, and external specialists to create a supportive environment. This collaboration helps us understand each child’s unique needs and ensures that our curriculum adaptations are both appropriate and effective.
- Statutory assessment / In-school assessment: We recognise that some pupils need additional time or breaks during assessments. We also consider flexible settings, such as a quiet room, to help reduce anxiety and distraction. Our inclusion team work closely with teachers, parents and carers, and external specialists to determine the best accommodations for each child. This collaborative approach ensures that every pupil's unique needs are met during assessments and children achieve their potential.
By adapting our curriculum for SEND, we aim to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued, capable, and inspired to learn.
