The Alps

What are we doing?
You are looking at pictures of The Alps to describe what you can see and persuade someone to visit.


1️⃣ Describe what you can see

Write notes about the details in the picture.

  • What is in the picture? (mountains, snow, trees, houses)

  • What colours can you see?

  • What might it feel like to be there? (cold, fresh, calm)

👉 Example note:

  • “Tall, snowy mountains with white peaks and dark green trees.”


2️⃣ Use your senses

Good descriptions use the five senses.

  • See: bright snow, blue sky

  • Hear: wind, birds, silence

  • Feel: cold air, soft snow

  • Smell: fresh air, pine trees

  • Taste: hot chocolate, warm food

👉 Example note:

  • “The air looks fresh and clean, and the snow feels cold and crunchy.”


3️⃣ Persuade the reader

Now think: Why would someone want to go there?

  • Fun activities (skiing, hiking, sledging)

  • Beautiful views

  • Peaceful and relaxing

  • Exciting adventures

👉 Example note:

  • “You should visit the Alps because you can ski down snowy slopes and see amazing views.”


4️⃣ Use powerful words

These words help persuade:

  • amazing

  • breathtaking

  • peaceful

  • exciting

  • perfect

  • unforgettable

👉 Example note:

  • “The Alps are a breathtaking place to visit.”


Sentence starters you can use

  • In this picture, I can see…

  • The mountains look…

  • It would feel like…

  • You should visit the Alps because…

  • This place is perfect for…
