Our vision for Relationships and Health Education
Relationships Health Education (RHE) at Christ Church Primary School is rooted within the Christian faith and our school vision and values. The RHE curriculum supports our wider work in fostering pupil wellbeing, resilience, and character. These are key to children being able to flourish in all aspects of their life. Our RHE curriculum is designed to equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions so they can lead a lifestyle that keeps them safe, healthy and prepared for the realities of modern life.
Relationships Education
The Relationships curriculum aims to teach children the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships with reference to friendships, family relationships and relationships with other children and adults. This is underpinned by our school vision ‘aspiring together through love’.
Health Education
The Health curriculum aims to teach children about their physical health and mental well-being, giving them information and resources they need to make positive and informed decisions about their own health and well-being as they grow.
Our RHE Curriculum
Our RHE curriculum is designed to help children develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. We ensure our RHE lessons are tailored to the developmental stage of each year group and encourage children to be inclusive and respectful, celebrating diversity and ensuring all children feel valued. Topics are taught through practical examples, stories, and discussions that connect to children’s everyday experiences.
RHE is an essential part of our whole school approach to personal development and wellbeing and our curriculum teaches children about:
- Building positive and respectful relationships
- Understanding emotions and developing resilience
- Staying healthy and safe, both physically and mentally
- Recognising diversity and valuing differences
- Making informed choices about health and wellbeing
Through our RHE curriculum we support children in these areas:
- Building confidence and self-esteem
- Forming positive relationships
- Making healthy choices
- Preparing them for the next stage of their education and life

Developing Literacy through RHE
We develop literacy through all areas of our curriculum, including RHE, in the following ways:
- High quality oracy opportunities through class or circle time discussions where we encourage children to share ideas, feelings, and experiences related to friendship, safety, or wellbeing.
- Role play and drama, for example, acting out scenarios such as resolving conflicts or asking for help, building confidence in verbal communication.
- Using age-appropriate stories that explore themes like kindness, diversity, and emotions.
- Exploring vocabulary such as respect, consent, emotions, and wellbeing.
