Personal Development and Wellbeing

At Christ Church we use ‘Hamish and Milo’ wellbeing resources to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). Hamish and Milo is a comprehensive wellbeing and nurture programme for small intervention groups to help primary-aged children to be happier, heard and connected. The programme provides the framework, language, and content for courageous conversations about children’s mental health, emotions, and life experiences, as well as the structure to support children’s social and emotional development.
Our SEMH intervention programmes are supported by evidence and support children to develop confidence, social emotional literacy (SEL) skills and healthier relationships. Our SEMH intervention programmes enhance our Relationships and Health Education curriculum and focus on ten key emotional themes; friendship, resilience, anxiety, diversity, strong emotions and anger, change and transition, conflict resolution, loss and bereavement, sadness and self-esteem. These themes develop the importance of co-regulation and emotional safety and give our children the language and emotional vocabulary they need to help make sense of experiences and situations. This is crucial in the development of emotional literacy skills to enable social relationships, communication and emotional regulation. With this in place, our emotional wellbeing is enhanced and we can engage in learning and the wider world.
