What is the PCSO program?
The Junior PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) program is a school-based initiative, primarily in the UK (West Midlands Police area), that empowers primary school children to become community safety leaders, teaching them about responsible behaviour, road safety and anti-social issues, fostering respect and safety in their schools and neighbourhoods.
Children that take part gain valuable life lessons, feel proud representing our school, and receive certificates upon completion, with the aim of becoming future community-minded citizens.
What is included in the program?
During the six week program, our Junior PCSO’s take part in a number of practical activities such as:
- Learning the phonetic alphabet
- Parking patrols (sometimes issuing warning tickets)
- Litter picks
- Speed watches
- Mock crime scene investigations
- Leading assemblies and talks
Who can take part?
We currently offer the program to a selection of Year 5 children that have applied for the role using our PCSO application form.
Uniform
Participants wear high-visibility vests and they uniquely designed PCSO name badges.
