Lunchtime at Christ Church Primary School is a very special time for all of our children. Children dine together with their friends at tables laid with cloths and fresh flowers. It is a time for developing social skills and enjoying the company of friends and the class team. Our children are looked after by our very own staff who know them well and ensure that lunchtime is a positive and rewarding time.
We are delighted that this experience became an even richer one with the introduction in September 2014 of universal free school meals for reception and key stage one. Every child in these year groups dines with their class every day; it is a natural extension of our very special class team time.
Before dining, children at each table take a moment to reflect and thank God for giving us food to eat and friends to enjoy eating with. Music is frequently played, children become increasingly responsible for the environment and there is an ethos of support and respect for each other.
Our delicious meals are cooked here at school by our experienced catering team and all meet nutritional and dietary requirements. There is a good range throughout the week and a choice each day.
Children are gently encouraged to try new foods and rewards are given for those who ‘have a go’.
Once children have enjoyed their meal, they engage in ‘Activity Time’ outside with their friends where a wide range of games and activities are on offer.
From year three upwards (KS2) children can bring sandwiches from home if they prefer. Children sit with their friends at tables in their classroom during this time. We do ask parents and carers to pack a nutritious lunch for their child; fizzy drinks, chocolate and sweets are not allowed.
Once children enter KS2 it is possible to 'mix and match' school dinners and sandwiches from home. Please contact the office for further details.
