At Christ Church Primary we teach much of our curriculum, including history, geography, art and design, design technology, music, R.E., and science in KS1, through a cross curricular 'Learning Journey'. The 'Curriculum Overview' page explains this in more detail.
Below you will find the plans for each two year phase of school.
Each term, a curriculum day is allocated to teach computing. Pupils also have time for regular practise to hone their skills.
At Christ Church Primary the core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding as pupils move through school, they are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
From year 3 onwards, all pupils have a weekly French lesson. Through these lessons we aim to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Pupils express their ideas and thoughts in French and learn to understand and respond to others, both in speech and in writing.
Physical Exercise (P.E.)
All pupils take part in regular P.E. lessons both inside and outside. In Year 4, pupils travel to the local leisure centre for swimming lessons.
At Christ Church Primary, we aim to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. The opportunities we provide to compete in sport and other activities aim to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
Personal, Social and Health Economic Education (PSHE)
Each term, a curriculum day is allocated to teach PSHE. In addition, pupils learn about PSHE through our Learning Journey curriculum.
At Christ Church Primary, PSHE lessons aim to equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions. Our lessons are focussed on three main themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. Pupils are taught about subjects such as drug education, financial education, sex and relationship education (SRE) and the importance of physical activity and diet for a healthy lifestyle.
